FAQ

What is Chill With Phil about?
About two and a half hours that you will never get back.

How long have you been on the air?
We started October 31st 2003

How do you get those movies?
I have my ways

Why don't you show good movies instead?

There are plenty of good movies on TV. This is for people who have a different set of values concerning what is good to watch.

Really? This is popular?
Surprisingly yes. We get good numbers and a high volume of calls and letters. I owe that in no small part to TV being a wasteland on Saturday night. I am even forced into watching Chill With Phil some weeks because there is simply nothing else on. I am not trying to be self depreciating but but I am also not lying. And it does seem to be funny sometimes. Right now somebody somewhere in charge of things like that told me I have about ten thousand viewers. I imagine it falls way off about 1 am which is shame because that's when it really gets good, the first two hours are just warming up.

Are all the shows live?

No very few of them are. Back when we started Andy Wiseacre and myself were in the studio on Friday night anyway, doing the show live was just our way of screwing off the last two hours of the work week. When it got moved to Saturday to make way for a rerun of Malcolm In The Middle doing shows live meant driving into town on the weekends and doing the show thus adding another day to the week. I don't want to seem lazy but I really do not want to be there six days a week unless they pay me extra.

WEHT Andy Wiseacre?

Andy and I did not break up ala Lewis and Martin. He just didn't want to do it anymore. We still stay in touch and he works at his day job.

Why is no one famous on your show?
I try to get every celeb that comes to town unfortunately celebs are few and far between in Corpus Christi and because we are on so late it seldom benefits them to be there. These shows (like mine) are about promotion. Most concert gigs (for example) have come and gone for any given weekend long before my show hits air. It was better when it was on Friday nights.Besides I got that guy from the Globetrotters just last week! Clint Milby has been there.

Who the hell is Clint Milby?

A Houston based Filmmaker of ill-repute. His website is down right now. I'll get with him this week and see what's up.

What is your best moment on the show?
I have had very few great moments but the show has had some really good ones. I can sit here and say that we had the World Premiere of Refuge of Last Resort. A film that is doing really well in the DVD market.
The Primordial Oooze Puppet Show was really good. I still hear about that one.
The Haunted Cemetery Tour with The Paranoia Paranormal Ghost Hunting Society is my favorite.

Can we order past shows?

No. I do not even tape them. They are stored inside a computer and on Monday morning they are sent to the recycle bin.

How do you repeat shows then?
We have never shown a re-run. We have repeated films but never a repeat show.

How does one get to be a guest on your show?
Two ways: You can be invited or you can buy your way in. If you want to be invited just ask and tell me why you want to come. If are even moderately interesting you are welcomed on but you cannot be there to sell something. If you have something to sell you are also welcomed. I will work out a sponsorship package and you can come on to sell your product or service. I sell this shamelessly. We are a commercial TV station driven by advertiser support.

I have a question- why don't you answer your F&^n phone anymore? Why no emails anymore?

Phil, Why did you show half of "Warlock", 40 minutes of a month old segment of you and Joe's friend, then the second half of "Dr. Blood's Coffin", all in one night, instead of playing a movie you haven't run twice, at least, and running it all the way through? Often, as with "Dr. Blood's Coffin", you run the same movie sometimes for a month straight. Since you apparentley care so little about your viewers, perhaps we, your viewers should begin a boycott campaign against your sponsors. It would be easy to contact your sponsors and let them know how far your show has run downhill, and how bad it makes them look. Since your sponsors make it possible for you to air your show, they should know that the majority of your viewers feel this way, and will refuse to watch your show, or do business with your sponsors, until you start caring about your viewers, and the quality of your show. Anything worth doing is worth doing well. We really enjoy the types of movies that you are trying to put on, and we have tried to be faithful fans and viewers of Chill with Phil. We can only watch the same broken up segments and patchwork movies week after week, for so long, before we change the channel. We feel let down, BUT, we also feel that you have the power, personality, and ability to improve your show, making it better than ever, and really bring to T.V. something that has been missing for a long time. Please show us and your sponsors that you care, and we will remain loyal viewers, and patrons to your sponsors.- Thank You

Phil,
I am pleased to see that you posted my comment. I would like to thank you for taking the time to read it. I also wanted to say that it was only meant as constructive critisism, and I hope you understand that I in no way meant to directly insult you. I also wanted to know if you plan on playing "Warlock" all the way through sometime soon. I really liked what I saw of it, and would like to see the rest. Could you tell us what next week's (Jan. 26th.) movie will be, and if it will be shown all the way through without jumbled bits of other movies? Also, my husband was wondering if you could get "Sluaghter House 5", and if so would you show it. He says it was really good.

Flutterbyte-

For a direct email response write me at chillwithphi@ktov.com

Firstly, I was in Houston when this disaster happened. I simply have no idea where it went so bad but the show was on autopilot that night. I have no way to trace what went wrong (those things have to be done within the first 24 hours or the "evidence" is swallowed by the computers.

I do not know if I can repeat Warlock yet or not. It is one of my "high end" films which carries a restricted broadcast window and it cost a lot to air (Thanks to Dr. Nerd 814 NERD) we were able to air it all.

Slaughterhouse Five is currently not in syndication. If that changes I will happily air it.

Serial Mom is this weeks offering, although I do not have my hands on it yet! The tape has been delayed ...

Also all of your constructive criticism is welcomed any time. And it takes a lot to really insult me. And please don't boycott my sponsors. Please. I am begging you here!! :)

Phil

I can't understand how flutterbyte can sit there & watch your show & threaten to boycot your sponsors. As a sponsor of your show - I don;t think we need to deal with people with crappy attitudes - so that type of boycott would be welcome. We appreciate your show Phil & we get TONS of response from it. Just because flutterbyte us convinced he is the "majority" of your viewers...fear not - we who pay - know better. Kep up the good work!

Dear Anonymous "Sponsor",
Phil Dixon forwarded this comment directly to my email today, which is in response to my last posting. If you read my last posting thoroughly, you will see that I never intended to insult or injure Phil in anyway. In his reply, you will see that he states he was not insulted. He even stated that all of our constructive criticism is welcomed anytime.
It is obvious by your feeble attempt to "hurt my feelings" with your juvenile play on words with my screen name, that you a very small person. And CERTAINLY, if you do not want our business, by all means, please inform me as to which of Phil's sponsors you represent, and I will see to it that myself, my family, friends, and acquaintances will no longer burden you with our money. When mentioning the "majority of his viewers", I may have misspoken. What I should have said that being Real Estate Investors in the Coastal Bend area, we come in contact with a rather large amount of people, and we have not met anyone in this manner that did not generally feel the same in regards to Chil with Phil, and KTOV. Not only they, but our friends, family, my son, his school mates, and even a few of his teachers have stated that they feel the same way. Following this statement, I will include my last direct email correspondence I sent to Phil, which was not posted on this site. As you read it, you will see that any criticism was meant constructively, and I was assured it would be taken as such. I expressed these thoughts to Phil with the intent to help him improve his show, and make it the best he and KTOV could. You will also see that I made it clear that I do not blame him for programming errors, as I know he is not responsible for that area. I then asked him if he could help us contact who was in charge of that area, so we could deal with them directly regarding the afore mentioned problems.

PHIL,
In sending me this email directly, it would seem that you are hurt or insulted by our comments. AGAIN, the statements we have made were not in ANY way meant to insult or injure you. We were simply giving you are comments, both complementary and critical, as you assured us that they were welcomed.
Here is my most recent direct email to Phil:
Phil,
I would like to say thank you for your response. We do understand that since you were out of town, you had no control over programming errors, but, you should know that this is not an isolated incident for your station. It does not affect your show alone. We have been frustrated for about the last year, as KTOV has had such errors as going black for up to an hour at a time, squelchy, inaudible audio and out of sync audio/video. My son and his friends used to watch South Park, and Chill with Phil on KTOV, but he tells us the channel has become such a running joke at his school, that no one he knows watches it anymore. We do understand that this is not your problem, and we wonder who we should contact about these issues. We know you are not directly responsible, but it does affect you and the stations sponsorship and marketing directly. Do all of these problems come as a surprise to you, or are the people running your station aware that these things are happening? It has seemed to us for quite some time, that no one at KTOV actually watches their own station. Would you like us to speak directly to someone in charge of these areas, or can you bring these issues to them yourself, and inform us of the result?
Obviously, boycotting your sponsors is an absolute last resort, and clearly, we are not there yet. The care and concern you have for you viewers, and your show is apparent, due to your response, and time spent considering my comments. We would like to see the same care and concern from the people who are in charge of your station.
The opposite side of the coin, is that if we feel that KTOV has made changes for the better, we will work with our friends, co-workers, and our son (who has many friends), to bring back the viewers who have stopped tuning in, and if we can, bring some new viewers to the station.
Again, we really enjoy your show, the genre of movies you air, and your personality. I can not express how much we appreciate the fact that you care enough to consider our comments, and give your response. It means a great deal.
Also, we would like to see Plan 9 From Outer Space, if you can get it. It has to be the "Best Worst" Movie ever made, LOL! I have seen Serial Mom, years ago, and I enjoyed it, but have not been able to find it for rent, so I am looking forward to seeing it this Saturday. Also, thanks for letting us know about Slaughter House 5. Oh, if you have not seen it, you might want to check out for yourself "A Boy and His Dog", though I am sure it would be too graphic for Chill with Phil.
Thank You for your response!
Peace and Love,
Jessica I. Garcia

OK- I am going to put my foot down. There will be no infighting among the ranks! I just feel as though sponsor and viewer can walk hand in hand in life without squabbling, name calling or any potty mouth language or hurling of insults or blunt objects.

1)I appreciate any comments. Always. Period. Good , bad - don't care I can take it. I am a hard- knocks , streetwise guy who is no stranger to harsh criticism.
I am also a sensitive boy-child who strives on praise for a job well done. So far I appreciate all the comments made here.

2)It is really hard to insult me. I am really comfortable in my own skin and know that I do some good, and I screw up a lot. I have no problem with screwing up and I expect others to screw up.

The lingo I use is neither hip nor groovy. The other day at the skate park I saw two guys collide really hard. It could not have been painless. What in another situation could have erupted in a fist fight ended with one of the guys saying "my bad". The injured party shrugged it off and went on to more skating. I think the term "my bad" is the hallmark of a new generation of youth willing to shrug off life's little bumps and bruises and go back to having an amazingly good time with their lives. Even if their elbows hurt. My bad is the peace out of the next generation.

3)I think you will see a much better looking KTOV now that KUQI is on air (FOX ch 38).The high sheriffs have hired on two new duties with a positive history of technical know how in running these stations. They are called MCOs or Master Control operators. While sponsors are the life blood of television, MCOs are the muscle and it takes a lot of strength to do what they do. So ...an all's well that ends well kind of thing. No need to squabble. Nobody get boycotted.

Since we are talking about sponsors let me take this opportunity to just say that I owe these people a lot:

Dr. Nerd Computers-Those guys have been so good to me over the last few years. There is not enough good things I can say about them. Computer problems are a royal pain the ass , and sometimes dr.Nerd takes too long but they are always up front about the total repair cost, the various options available to you and they never say they are the fastest, they say they are the best and they don't charge extra for heavy jobs. They can also meet your every business or office need including complete networking.

Yummies Ice Cream- They take too long, but theres a sign on the wall that says "This is not a fast food restaurant - good food takes longer" and that is what you get too! Burgers that will make you cry! Fresh hand cut fires that satisfy the deeper need for fried foods..and of course delicious Blue Bell ice cream and specialty items like the Ripper, a deep fried hot dog! Okay it's not health food. Whatever.

Wildewood Books- Let Connie tell your fortune. It's amazing and it's free this week on Chill With Phil Love Psychic Valentine's Day Spectacular.
